About studio headshot photography sessions

… but I hate having my photo taken.

You’re not alone! And for that reason I want to make the process of getting a great professional business or corporate headshot as simple and easy as possible.

All you need to do is make your booking, arrive at the studio, and then download the finished pictures when they’re ready.

In more detail, this is what happens when you book your individual studio headshot session with me.

  1. Make your booking — either online or by giving me a call

  2. You’ll receive an email that confirms your booking time and contains the address and other little bits of information that you’ll need. And of course you can always call or email me any time if you have more questions.

  3. At the time of your booking I’ll meet you at the studio and show you in.

  4. We’ll chat for a couple of minutes. I might ask you about the work that you do, or if you have a style of headshot in mind. What I’ll be trying to do at this point is work out what sort of background would suit you and how best to light and photograph you so that you get the results that you need.

  5. I’ll adjust the studio setup accordingly and then the photography starts.

  6. At this point there is nothing that you need to do — I’ll coach you through the whole process, telling you how to stand or sit, how to position your head and shoulders, what to do with your hands and arms, what sorts of expressions work and don’t work … I’ll direct you through all of those things.

  7. During the session we’ll constantly review and check the images, and at the end you’ll be able to select up to three of them. I’ll guide you through the selection process and you’ll be amazed at how the little details make big differences to the way you look in your images.

  8. And that’s it! After you leave, I’ll do a complete professional retouch on the images that you have selected and when they’re ready I’ll send you a link from which you’ll be able to download your finished images.

  9. The last thing to do is to take your new headshots and use them to make your mark on the world.

FAQs

How do I book an individual studio headshot session?

It’s easy. My availability for studio sessions is on the calendar on the booking page. Just navigate to your preferred date and select the time that suits you the best. You’ll then be prompted to enter your details. When that’s done you’ll receive confirmation messages and more details by both SMS and email. You’ll also receive a reminder message the day before the session.

I’m having trouble with the booking form, what can I do?

I’m sorry to hear that. Sometimes technology just, well … has issues!
But that’s no problem. Just send me a message from the contact page with the date and time that you want to book and I’ll happily book you in manually and invoice you later for the payment.

Do I need to pay more to get the photos?

No, absolutely not. Unlike many other studios, my booking fee includes the photo session itself and up to three professionally edited/retouched headshots that we’ll select during your session. If you need more than three pictures then let me know in advance as that will cost a little bit more.

I run a business and I want to send new staff to get headshots when they join. Can that be arranged?

Yes, of course. Several businesses send their new staff to me for headshots, which are done with the same look and style for each person so they all look consistent on your website and your marketing material. Furthermore, I discount the fee for those businesses. If you’re interested in doing this then send me a message or give me a call and I would be more than happy to chat with you about the options.

What should I wear to my headshot session?

Well, the short answer is to choose clothes that are well-fitting and that reinforce the impression that you’re trying to communicate (ie, formal, casual, modern, conservative …); and choose clothes that don’t distract too much attention away from your face.

Read more about clothing selection here.

I’m worried that I won’t know how to stand or where to look or what to do while I’m being photographed.

That’s completely normal and so don’t worry for a second about any of those things as I’ll coach and direct you through the whole process. Corporate and business headshots are not easy to do and so even if you’re used to being photographed we still need to pay very careful attention to your expression and your body language — even if it’s just your head and shoulders — so that your photograph communicates the right impression. I’m skilled at that sort of direction and that’s all part of what you pay for.

Do you have other times available besides those listed on the calendar.

Sometimes I do — so it’s worth asking. Send me an email or give me a call and I’ll do my best to find a day and time that suits you.

Can I book a session for more than one person?

It’s probably best if you get in touch and we can talk about what you need. At the moment I only accommodate one person at a time in the studio.

Can you match our existing corporate headshot style?

In most cases yes. In fact, this is something that I do quite a lot. The best thing to do is send me an example of the style that you would like me to emulate, or a copy of your style guide if you have one, and we can go from there.

Do you offer hair and make-up services?

No, I don’t. But I’m happy to recommend someone to you.

Do I get to choose my background?

Yes, to a point. I only offer plain backgrounds for studio headshot sessions. Normally they are neutral or very slightly cool tones (like the examples above) but colours are possible if you really need a coloured background. I recommend the neutral tones because they are easier for designers to use in different places and contexts. How light or dark we make the background is completely up to you — and we can always try different options during your session to see what works best for you.

How long does a studio headshot session take?

I normally ask people to allow an hour. Usually it doesn’t take that long, but very occasionally it can, especially if you have a selection of wardrobe items to try or if you want to get different ‘looks’.
